Acts of Parliament
After a Bill has received Royal Assent, it is published as an Act of Parliament, known as Public General Acts. Each Act is referred to as a Chapter (abbreviated to c.) and given a Chapter number, for example the Building Societies Act 1997 c.40. Acts are filed in Chapter number order for each Session. There is an index to Chapter numbers at the beginning of the bound volumes for each Session.
