Your Research Skills Team

The Research Skills Team provides workshops, online resources and 1:1 appointments to support postgraduate research students, academic staff, research staff and research support staff to become more effective researchers.

Research Facilities in the Main Library

Tony Skyrme Researcher Suite

Exclusively for the use of research students and staff, this space is located on the first floor of the Main Library.  It consists of two rooms with a range of seating types, lockers and PCs and is accessible by swipe card.  Refreshment facilities are available.

Research Reserve

Our heritage research collections are held in the Research Reserve. Items can be requested via FindIt@Bham and are fetched at frequent intervals during the day. Certain items (e.g. fragile or rare items) and microforms can only be consulted in the Allport Room study space in the Research Reserve.

Open Access

Open access increases the impact of scholarly research by supporting free and permanent online access to research outputs.

Research Data Management

Research Data Management is a general term covering how you organise, structure, store and care for the information used or generated during a research project.

Additional PGR Skills

The Research Skills Team also provides face-to-face and online training tailored to postgraduate researchers, in areas such as academic writing, being an effective researcher and communicating research:

EndNote

EndNote is a commercial reference management software package, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing dissertations and articles.

Digital Skills Team

The Digital Skills Team deliver a wide range of courses and technology training solutions to meet the development needs of students, teaching, research and admin staff in software such as Databases, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Digital Images, Project Management, Word Processing and Statistics.
