RefWorks for Embase: Activity 1: Set up on RefWorks

Activity 1: Get Started with RefWorks (create an account)

RefWorks is a web-based referencing tool to help make referencing easy. It has two big advantages.

Firstly, it allows you to gather, manage and store your references.

Secondly it interacts with Word allowing you to easily create citations and reference lists in the style (such as Harvard Cite them Right) that you require. 

  • Or you can create and copy references to paste into Word

1. Go to the RefWorks login page

2. Register with RefWorks as follows (unless you have done so already):

  • Click on 'Create account' under the search bars
  • Enter your University e-mail address and select Check
  • Think of and enter a password
  • An activation link should be emailed to  your Uni inbox. Find this and accept
  • Complete the pop-up  form with your details: you will then have a RefWorks Account 

*NB: it is recommended that you do NOT use the 'login by institution' route.

  • You can also find RefWorks by going to FindIt@Bham:
  • Then, search for  RefWorks 
  • Find the RefWorks database entry and select View online 
  • Select 'Create account' and proceed as above
