About World Book Day

World Book Day was launched in 1998 and takes place in the UK and Ireland on the first Thursday in March each year and is aimed at encouraging reading for pleasure and literacy development amongst children. It is allied to UNESCO's World Book and Copyright Day which was established in 1995 takes place on 23 April each year
