Where to find open access material

Open Access scholarly journal articles may be found in:

  • Open Access journals
  • In Institutional Repositories such as UoB's
  • Preprint servers and subject repositories
  • Researcher's own webpages
  • Open-web database or platforms such as Jstor  which also offer paid for access via the JPASS scheme.
  • Academic networking and discovery sites such as ResearchGate and Academia.edu which often allow downloads of articles, or the ability to request an author to share a copy.

For a fuller list of options and examples see The UoB guide to Open access repositories

Google Scholar is a useful academic-focused search engine. See the UoB Guide on how to make best use of Google Scholar.
