Adding references from Proquest databases

Proquest

Browsers

Problems may be encountered with downloading files from Proquest databases when using Chrome.

  • If so, then first clear cache and cookies on the browser
  • A Chrome extension such as for the Zotero software may also affect downloads: this can be checked by going to Settings - Advanced - Extensions in Chrome, disabling specific extensions, then doing a test search on Proquest

If problems still occur, then use another browser such as Firefox.

My Research

First set up a "My Research" account on Proquest. This is free and equivalent to accounts set up for other database groups such as Ovid (Medline etc).  This also allows you to save search histories or items in folders within  the account.  Then follow the steps below.

Search

  1. Go to the Proquest database or collection and sign in to My Research
  2. Perform a search
  3. Select the items you wish to export
  4. Select "All save options" (3 dots) and choose "Save to My Research"
  5. Go to My Research to locate the results there
  6. Select those results, choose the Save option and "RIS (works with Endnote, Citavi)" from the drop-down options
  7. If you first receive an error message, repeat the export: or repeat the search on the Proquest database in a different browser such as Firefox

2. EndNote Online

  1. Open up your EndNote Online account in a separate tab or window
  2. Click on 'Collect'
  3. Select 'Import References'
  4. Locate the downloaded file
  5. Choose RefMan RIS, or Proquest, from the drop-down list under Import Option
    • Tip: use Select Favorites to choose the filters you will need for your searches
    • RefMan RIS should cover any RIS file type uploads
  6. Choose the group within EndNote Online to import the results, or create a new group if needed
